Congress begins new session without Dr. No, but his legislation is still carried on

By: John Watts

After serving 12 terms in Congress as the only member demonstrating consistent commitment to a coherent ideal of liberty, Dr. Ron Paul is now officially retired.

But the legions of liberty-loving Americans that he has inspired and educated need not be disheartened, as the 113th Congress contains a number of members dedicated to carrying on Dr. Paul’s work.

For example, Rep. Thomas Massie, (R-KY), reintroduced Ron Paul’s “Citizens Protection Act of 2013” on the first day of the new legislative session. This bill repeals the unconstitutional “Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990” and all amendments to that act.

The purpose of the legislation is to allow teachers and staff with concealed carry permits to protect their students and themselves by carrying their weapons at school free of interference from the federal laws.

Federally mandated gun-free school zones endanger schoolchildren and teachers by depriving school personnel of the means to defend themselves from an attacker.

Repealing the unconstitutional “Gun Free Schools Act” is a more effective response to tragic school shooting then simply passing more unconstitutional and ineffective federal gun laws. An individual intent on murdering innocents is unlikely to care if they are in a “gun-free” school zone.

The only sensible and constitutional policy is to respect the right of free individuals to decide for themselves how best to protect their loved ones.
