The Convention of States Con-Job

Dr. Paul and I recently warned you about legislation in Iowa that could spell the end of the U.S. Constitution as we know it.

HJR 12/SJR 8 applies for a disastrous Article V Convention (a.k.a. Con Con), where all of your rights would be open to revision -- or worse.

When the 2017 session ended, this bill was just one vote away from passing, and it could be RAMMED through the Iowa Senate with lightning speed in 2018!

And, I’m worried.

You see, the special interest groups supporting these bills are twisting the facts.

For one thing, they insist an “Article V Convention” is not a “Constitutional Convention”. . .

But according to Black’s Law Dictionary, that’s not true.

Constitutional Convention: A duly constituted assembly of delegates or representatives of the people of a state or nation for the purpose of framing, revising, or amending its constitution.

Con Con groups don’t want you to know an Article V Convention is the same thing as a Constitutional Convention because the entire Constitution could be thrown out -- along with your most cherished rights.

It’s URGENT you contact your state senator immediately and demand they vote “NO” on HJR 12/SJR 8.

These groups want you to believe nothing can go wrong and that Article V limits what can happen at a convention, but that’s not true either.

Article V itself does not back up any assertions that a convention can be limited -- and noted constitutional scholars agree.

The Constitution itself doesn’t place limits or restrictions on subject matter, spell out the convention process, or determine how delegates should be chosen.

But that’s not all.

The risk of a “runaway convention” is extreme -– especially in today’s political climate.

Just think about America’s own history. . .

Our Founding Fathers met in Philadelphia with instructions to fix issues with the Articles of Confederation. The delegates from those 13 states couldn’t agree, and we ended up with a whole new Constitution.

That’s right, once the convention was convened, the instructions were thrown out the window.

We are extremely blessed that most of those at the convention favored limited government. But there are few true advocates of limited government alive today who would even be invited to an Article V Con Con.

And that’s just one reason why Iowa Campaign for Liberty opposes this terrible idea.

It’s URGENT you contact your state senator immediately and demand they vote “NO” on HJR 12/SJR 8.

One group supportive of a Con Con -- Convention of States Project -- even points out on their own website that if a convention is called. . .

“. . . the convention of states itself would determine which ideas deserve serious consideration. . .”

And what they fail to point out is that literally hundreds of progressive organizations, such as Wolf PAC, Sierra Club, Code Pink, Alliance for Progressive Values, MoveOn, and “Occupy,” have been pushing for a convention since 2009!

Many of them want to limit your political speech rights protected by the First Amendment.

Others are demanding a convention to do away with the Electoral College.

And still others -- including Convention of States Project -- want to tinker with the Second Amendment, which will open the floodgates to individuals and groups who want to do away with it entirely.

And the truth is coercive, progressive activists -- like BILLIONAIRE George Soros -- will be able to use their power and influence to direct the entire process.

George Soros has been working behind the scenes for years to fundamentally transform America. . .

A Con Con would give him the chance to see his dreams become a reality!

Just read what former Barack Obama campaign advisor Lawrence Lessig -- who supports the efforts of BOTH Wolf PAC and Convention of States Project -- recently said about a Con Con:

“The beauty of a convention is that it would provide a forum of possibility for conservative Tea Party types . . . as well as progressives.

“The only requirement is that two-thirds of the states apply, and then begins the drama of an unscripted national convention to debate questions of fundamental law. It would be a grand circus of democracy at its best.”

A “grand circus” indeed!

Don’t fall for the con.

Don’t trust the hundreds of progressive organizationscalling for an Article V Convention to do the right thing and rein in the federal government.

Don’t trust the powerful special interests, backed by George Soros and his ilk, to ignore this golden opportunity to fundamentally transform America.

Don’t trust the progressive states, such as California, New York, Massachusetts, and Illinois, to protect your liberty.

Please contact your state senator immediately and demand they vote “NO” on HJR 12/SJR 8.

Then, be sure to chip in an emergency donation of $50 or $20 to help Iowa Campaign for Liberty end this threat once and for all.
