End the War on Raw Milk

The U.S. House of Representatives will vote as early as today to take a major step to end the federal government’s war on raw milk.

Since the vote could come at any time between now and when the House adjourns tomorrow, it is vital you call your representative at 202-224-3121 and tell them to vote for Representative Thomas Massie’s amendment to the Farm Bill (H.R. 2).

Rep. Massie’s amendment legalizes interstate commerce in raw milk between states that have legalized the production, sale, and consumption of raw milk.

So, if you live in a state that has legalized the sale of raw milk, you can buy it from another state that also legalizes raw milk consumption.

While not totally ending the federal prohibition of raw milk, it does force the federal government to respect state laws on the issue, and it would limit the federal government’s use of police state tactics to stop legal businesses from selling raw milk -- like the time armed federal agents raided an Amish farm searching for “illegal milk.”

Rep. Massie’s amendment is a rare bright spot in an otherwise awful bill that is chock full of big spending and crony capitalist giveaways to big agri-business and millionaires -- many of whom are, at best, part-time farmers.

The big industries who benefit from America’s agriculture policies hate Rep. Massie’s amendment because it allows small, independent family farms to market their products across state lines, thus competing with the large corporate farms that dominate the “official” milk industry.

And most representatives will not stand up to these special interests unless they hear from citizens demanding an end to the crony capitalism that limits their choices in order to benefit the powerful and well-connected.

Please call your representative at 202-224-3121 and tell them to vote for the Massie Amendment to the Farm Bill (H.R. 2).
