It has ALWAYS been OUR responsibility to make the necessary changes and corrections to government by fierce and diligent engagement in the democratic process. The Framers warned us over and over to nurture a deep distrust of government by continually holding it accountable and limited at every turn. Jefferson even predicted that it would be unlikely that we could pull it off in the long run....not as a statement on human apathy but as a warning of the inherent nature of government. As a matter of academic and historic fact, a government not properly attended to by it's governed will create a vacuum for whatever or whomever to fill it. Waiting and hoping that someday, the right person will correct our problems is a fools errand. That job belongs to us.
