Marco Rubio: A Hawks' Hawk

In a foreign policy speech before the Council on Foreign Relations yesterday, Senator Marco Rubio again displayed that he is nothing more than a neoconservative hawk who would love to send America's sons and daughters into a new field of battle against Iran, Syria, or any other perceived threat to American hegemony.

Marco Rubio is the latest champion of the worst parts of the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party. A wing that has completely isolated itself from the rest of the party by refusing to take debt and deficit spending seriously while continuing to fund Big Government at home because it is necessary for their grandiose plans abroad.

Rubio joins the old-guard neoconservative trio of John McCain, Lindsey Graham, and Joe Lieberman, who all advocate a hyper-interventionist foreign policy, while assailing anyone who promotes a conservative, humble foreign policy as an "isolationist."

The sham is up. It was up after 8 years of President Bush. Even President Bush ridiculed neoconservatives who were critical of his refusal to preemptively bomb Iran, once referring to Bill Kristol and Charles Krauthammer as "the bomber boys."

What was once perfectly clear after the folly of invading Iraq and the turmoil it caused has now appeared to faid from their memories.  A hyper-interventionist foreign policy of nation building and policing the world is the real isolationist foreign policy.

It isolates us from our allies; it isolates us from countries who wish to remain neutral, and even worse, it shuts off diplomatic channels with our "enemies."  So much for the old addage, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer."

Rubio has made it clear where he stands. When it comes to foreign policy, the senator lines up shoulder to shoulder with President Obama.

There is hope, though. There are signs the neoconservatives are losing their stranglehold on the GOP.  In their place is a growing coalition of pro-liberty activists, who are advocating for a common sense foreign policy of peace, commerce, and honest friendship.
