Oh, the Irony!
The Senate will have the last vote today on the NDAA Conference Report around 4pm this afternoon.
This is the last chance to stop a bill that will for the first time, codify in law the ability for the President to order the military to detain American citizens without trial "until the end of hostilities." As we all know, the "War on Terror" isn't exactly shaping up to be a "war" that "ends" anytime soon, thus making that detention indefinite.
The ironic part?
This is all happening on "Bill of Rights Day."
220 years ago today, the Bill of Rights became part of the Constitution after being ratified by the several states.
Now, 220 years later, a bill that would do away with due process, ignore the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 8th amendments, is poised to pass the Senate and be signed by President Barack Obama.
Unless you act immediately, contacting your senators at 202-224-3121 and urging your friends, family, and coworkers to do the same, I fear this bill will pass and become law.
This fight is personal.
In 2009, a memo put out by a fusion center in Missouri, more commonly known today as the "MIAC report" said that individuals displaying Campaign for Liberty bumper stickers on their car could be a potential terrorist.
After a massive outpouring of outrage at the report, it was later withdrawn, but the underlying point is still there — even you, a law-abiding citizen who happens to be active in politics could be labeled a terrorist.
That is not American. And it is not the America that our founding fathers left to us 224 years ago.
Please, help us save America and her citizens from being indefinitely detained without due process by killing this bill!
Contact both of your senators immediately at 202-224-3121 and urge them to vote NO on the NDAA Conference Report!
Your freedom, and the American way of life depend on it.
