Statewide Freedom to Work is in Jeopardy!

September 14, 2011

Dear Tony,

Shouldn't you have a choice to join a union or not?

Shouldn't you also have a choice to pay into the union or not?

Freedom to Work is about choice, and free association.... don't let the pundits confuse the issue.

You and other Campaign for Liberty members across the state have worked hard to get the word out, but today your hard work is in jeopardy.

Senate Republicans have introduced legislation that would secure free association for teachers only, leaving hundreds of thousands of forced unionized workers from other professions still under the boot of forced unionism.

Sure, we could easily say we will take what we can get and this is a step in the right direction.  The problem is, as soon as we say that, we will not get any more.

I can hear the politicians now, insisting they fought for us, even after they undercut us by introducing this half-measure.  This is no different than introducing an amendment that would gut full statewide Freedom to Work legislation on the floor.

That's why it is urgent that you click here to sign our petition.  Once you've signed the petition, don't forget to use the tell-a-friend feature to get the word out and the sample call script to call your Senator.  Tell them not to discriminate against hundreds of thousands of workers and pass a full statewide Freedom to Work bill.

Big Labor is an $18 Billion a year industry.  Their "product"?  Campaign contributions for big tax-and-spend politicians like President Obama.

Most of their money comes from FORCED union dues from millions of rank-and-file workers who have to pay in order to keep their job.

That is the reality for Michigan workers--pay up, or be fired.

Can this be stopped?  Thankfully, yes.  Federal labor laws allow states to make union membership voluntary if states pass a Freedom to Work law.

It is so important that you act now and let your senator know that anything less than a full statewide freedom to work law is unacceptable.  Please sign our petition, send it to your friends, and call your senator today!

When politicians tell you something, you should always ask yourself: How does it benefit them if I believe them.

So when they tell you this is a good start or we need to pass half measures first, ask yourself how it benefits them if you believe them.  The answer is pretty simple, you will back off.

Free association is a natural right.  Without it, we don't have free speech.  We must fight for the restoration of free association for all workers in Michigan, not just a select few.

Please, will you contact your state senator by clicking here and consider helping us fund this worthwhile effort with a donation of $5, $10, or even $25.

For Liberty,

Tony DeMott
Michigan State Coordinator
Campaign for Liberty

P.S.  No one should be forced to pay for someone else's political agenda.  Workers should not be forced to contribute to a private organization in order to keep their job.  We can stop this injustice by passing a statewide Freedom to Work bill.  Click here to sign our petition and contact your legislator.
