The end of Liberty? Full court press for National ID begins
September 12, 2011
This is a critical time in our battle for liberty and limited government. Campaign for Liberty members have been on the front lines of the fight for our nation's future, and I'm writing you today to urge you to further action. Time is of the essence.
National ID is not a card with your picture on it—it's a database that combines your personal information, biometric data, financial information and Social Security Number.
When President Ronald Reagan’s attorney general William French Smith advocated in a cabinet meeting for support of a national ID card for illegal immigration control, the president reportedly scoffed, "Maybe we should just brand all the babies."
Barry Goldwater once stated "…Once we can be identified to the administration in government or in business by an exclusive number, we can be pinpointed wherever we are, we can be more easily manipulated, we can be more easily conditioned and we can be more easily coerced."
Once in place, National ID becomes you. In the government’s eyes, you will cease to be a flesh and blood person and instead will become data in a database. If that database says you are not a US citizen, you’re not. If that database says you’re not allowed to have a job, you can't work. If that database says you can't get a bank account, you can't.
This is what E-Verify is all about. It's an attempt by the statists to enroll every citizen into National ID. The legislature in Michigan is about to give the Department of Homeland Insecurity what it wants. It's about to pass E-Verify in Michigan.
We need your help to stop the Michigan Legislature from enrolling you into a National ID database. The House Commerce Committee, on Tuesday morning, will be deciding if they will send E-Verify to the floor for a final vote. Let’s stop this before it ever gets to the floor!
Whenever the same people give you the solution to the problem that they caused, you can be sure it involves a loss of your Liberty. E-Verify is no different.
Government has caused this problem by not protecting our borders and now government is trying to use the emotion built up against illegal immigrants to give us the solution, and take more of our liberties.
That's why we need your help. Click here for the committee members’ contact information and call / email every one of them. Tell them that sacrificing liberty for security will leave us with neither!
E-Verify doesn't even work! The federal government’s own report tells the story.
For illegal immigrants, over 52% are incorrectly labeled as American citizens. With approximately 11.2 million illegal immigrants in the US, that means nearly 6 million illegal immigrants will be given de facto citizenship through E-Verify.
The reason it doesn't work is well-known to the sponsors of E-Verify. E-Verify cannot detect document fraud. That's why the government’s solution to this problem will be adding biometric identifiers.
There is clear evidence that this is the goal. Last year statists Lindsey Graham and Chuck Schumer introduced legislation that would have added biometric data to E-Verify, and The Legal Workforce Act currently being pushed in congress right now does exactly that.
When President Obama advocates for a biometric national ID, you can be sure that the goal is not to stop illegal immigration. Doesn't it make you wonder what he would want it for? Could it be to deal with those that his administration have called right wing extremists, criminals, and even terrorists?
Now add to that Obama's advocacy of an Internet ID. Now your Internet searches and online activity can be added to the database.
It's bad enough already, so I hate to inform you that it gets worse. The Department of Homeland Security plans to share your data with the U.N., foreign corporations, and foreign governments.
In a February 2006 article in Government Computer News, Robert Mocny of DHS, in regard to biometric data the agency collects, stated “sharing is appropriate around the world.”
In a 2007 article from the same publication he stated “We're starting the process of biometrifying [sic] a good proportion of the world population" and DHS plans to create a "Global Security Envelope of internationally shared biometric data that would permanently link individuals with biometric ID, personal information held by governments and corporations.”
The danger of identity theft will be unrivaled once this data is collected and put out, almost freely, across the world.
Tony, with all the battles we’ve faced over the past several months to stop the bridge boondoggle and defend the freedom of association, I simply don’t have the resources to do everything.
You see, this isn’t a fight we can afford to lose.
Passage of E-Verify would virtually guarantee that the last vestiges of freedom we enjoy as Americans would be seriously jeopardized.
And if you and I don’t defeat it, who will?
