Fighting Back Against the NDAA
Efforts to repeal the National Defense Authorization Act for FY 2012 are gaining steam across the country.
In Virginia today, the Senate passed HB 1160 by a vote of 38-1 (the bill would prevent the state of Virginia from cooperating with the US government in regards to detaining American citizens without trial). It was amended slightly on the floor to read,
Notwithstanding any contrary provision of law, no agency or political subdivision of the Commonwealth, or employee of same acting in his official capacity, shall aid an agency of the United States in the unlawful detention of any United States citizen pursuant to 50 U.S.C. § 1541 as provided by the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012
It now heads back to the House where an earlier version sailed through, 96-4. If you live in Virginia, please take a moment to contact Governor Bob McDonnell at 804-786-2211 or by email, and ask him to sign HB 1160 into law when the House of Delegates passes it.
Meanwhile, back at the federal level, the Senate Judiciary will hold a hearing tomorrow morning at 10am entitled, "The Due Process Guarantee Act: Banning Indefinte Detention of Americans." You can view it live by clicking the "webcast" link on the Judiciary Committee website.
Federal efforts to clean up their own mess may seem counterproductive, but, it's worth pursuing every avenue for fighting back against this sort of unconstitutional powergrab. In addition, it's worth putting politicians on the record over and over again on issues such as these so you can hold them accountable for their actions.
Keep up the fights, don't lose hope, and together, we'll Reclaim the Republic and Restore the Constitution.
