Government propaganda: Coming soon to a TV near you

Good news. Starting this week, the American people will at last be able to see programs produced by the federally-funded Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG). You see, for years the BBG, which operates outlets such as the Voice of America, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and the Middle East Broadcasting Network was forbidden to broadcast within the United States. However, in the 2012 Congress quietly repealed the prohibition, thus allowing the Federal Government to produce and air federally-paid for programming on American TV.

A spokesman for the BBG denies that the BBG intends to produce government "propaganda."  I don't mean to be cynical but somehow I doubt that the BBG will use federal funds to produce a lot of programs critical of the government’s foreign and domestic policies.  But even if they were only producing objective news why, in the era of 24-hour news networks plus an almost infinite number of online sources, should the US Taxpayer be forced to pay for any federally-produced news services?

Just another reason we need Real Cuts, Right Now.
