In November, America sent a resounding message to Congress: no more deficit spending and no higher taxes!
Apparently, Speaker John Boehner missed the memo.
Sources on the Hill have made it quite clear that a "deal" on raising the debt ceiling between the Administration and Congressional leadership is likely imminent -- despite Boehner's recent denial in the press.
The problem with this deal?
Other than only making paltry "cuts" to the projected budget baseline over the next decade or so, it's likely to contain $1 trillion in tax increases. Or "revenue raisers" as the Orwellian's would prefer it called...
What can be done?
First, sign the "Cut, Cap, and Balance" pledge. Congress must make substantial budget cuts immediately to begin reducing the deficit. They must also implement enforceable spending caps that bring spending in line with historic averages. Finally, a solid Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution must be passed and sent on to the states for ratification.
Second, contact Speaker Boehner's office by phone (202) 225-0600 and email -- make sure he knows you want him to reject any "deal" to raise the debt ceiling that includes tax increases of any kind!
