Reform SC Dot - Eliminate STIB to My State Representative, State Senator, and the Governor
WHEREAS: The SC Department of Transportation is not accountable to the people of South Carolina; and WHEREAS: The State Transportation Infrastructure Bank (STIB) is a virtual slush fund for powerful politician's pet projects; and WHEREAS: Research by well respected independent non-profit policy organizations show that government structure, NOT lack of funding, is the reason our roads are in disrepair; and WHEREAS: Even our State Treasurer, who is popularly elected by the people of the entire state, has declared that reform of SC DOT and STIB are needed before we even discuss raising taxes. THEREFORE: I demand that the South Carolina General Assembly and the Governor immediately reform the SC DOT so that it is directly accountable to the people of the entire state, through the Governor, and that the virtual slush fund, the STIB, be eliminated. |
No Gas Tax Hike!
Dear SC Patriot,
Recent research by the SC Policy Council shows that the problems with roads in South Carolina have nothing to do with money.
“The problem, in short, is government structure — and as long as that structure goes unaddressed, no increase in funding will come close to remedying the state’s disintegrating infrastructure.”, they say.1
Our state Treasurer reinforced that when he said, “Some say that this year we should . . . raise taxes. I say no, let’s reform the DOT and the infrastructure bank and then debate the issue only after the reform . . . after we know that real change has taken place.”2
