Stop the Streetcar in Kansas City

Petition to "Stop the Streetcar"

City Council Members are looking at the Water Services Department as their new slush fund for their downtown streetcar project.  They are considering an ordinance that would direct $23.7 million from the Water Services Department’s water bond and sanitary sewer bond funds to the downtown screetcar fund!

The City Council just unanimously passed ordinance #140174 establishing a new water rate price increase of nearly 10.7% on the average residential user’s bill, effective May 1st, 2014!

Now they are looking for a way to pay for a streetcar.

Tell the City Council to stop leaking money out of your pocket, through the water department!

We, the undersigned, oppose the City Council’s proposed streetcar.

We, the undersigned, oppose any sales tax or property tax assessments to pay for this proposed streetcar or light rail.

We, the undersigned, oppose the attempt of the city to use federal stimulus money as an incentive to establish light rail in Jackson County and Kansas City.

We, the undersigned, oppose the use of Kansas City Enterprise funds, such as the airport or water department, as a means to fund any portion of the streetcar or light rail projects in Jackson County and Kansas City.

We, the undersigned, ask our City Council Members and County Legislators to introduce and support legislation repealing funding efforts for streetcars or light rail in Jackson County and Kansas City.

Therefore, be it resolved that we, the undersigned, demand that the City Council of Kansas City immediately suspend all activities related to the streetcar development district in Kansas City.
