Only in the United States Congress could they make a problem of their own making worse by adopting a (perhaps) well intentioned, yet misguided amendment. And moments ago they did just that by adopting the Gohmert amendment to the FY 2013 NDAA.

Representative Tom Rooney just sent out a disgracefully dishonest press release about the Smith/Amash amendment, claiming that it would "reward al-Qaeda attacks on U.S. soil" by "granting constitutional rights to foreign terrorists captured on U.S. soil."

In reality, this press release couldn't be further from the truth.

Shortly after 4pm today, several budgets, the Presidents' and four proposals offerred by Republicans, will receive votes in the Senate.

Today, an exasperated Senator Paul took to the floor to urge his colleagues to vote "YES" on S.Con.Res. 42, his Platform to Revitalize America, a budget that balances within the five year window called for in the Balanced Budget Amendment supported by all 47 Republican members of the Senate.

Following up on yesterday's post:

This week, the House of Representatives will take up the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2013, H.R. 4310.  Last year, the FY 2012 NDAA contained two detention provisions, Section 1021 and 1022, that allowed for the indefinite detention of American citizens and resident aliens.

On Fox Business last night, Senator Mike Lee joined John Stossel to discuss the federal government's over-regulatory burden on Americans.

Yesterday, Senator Marco Rubio spoke on foreign policy at the left-leaning think tank, Brookings Institute. In it, Rubio outlined what can only be described as a hawkish, Wilsonian foreign policy of hyperintervention.

Political Commentator Jack Hunter was one of many conservatives who took offense to the Senators' remarks.

On Thursday, Congress is scheduled to begin consideration of H.R. 3523, the "Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011" (CISPA).

This bill is the next great threat to our privacy over the Internet, but unlike the fight against SOPA and PIPA, Internet giants like Facebook and Twitter are openly supporting CISPA.

And as I write this, House Leadership is quietly working hard to gain your representative's support, including holding classified, "members only" meetings to make their case.

The next great threat to Americans' privacy has now emerged in a new so-called "cybersecurity" bill.  H.R. 3523, the "Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act of 2011" or CISPA, is set to see floor action next week in the House of Representatives.

I'd encourage everyone to contact their representative immediately at 202-224-3121 and urge them to vote NO on H.R. 3523 and any similar legislation when it comes up for a vote.

During a recent hearing in the Joint Economic Committee, Senator Lee questioned Dr. Kevin Hassett about how increased taxation, no matter whom they're intended to target, in the end always affects the little guy --- the 99%, if you will.

Since yesterday was Tax Day, many of you will appreciate hearing Dr. Hassett say that even though his PhD is on taxes, he will not do his own because they're too complicated.
