Senator Mike Lee Calls President Obama's Bluff

The President has threatened to withhold Social Security checks for America's dependent senior citizens (a well known-to-be skittish voting bloc) if the debt ceiling isn't raised before August 2.

In response, Senator Lee questioned the President's threat in a floor speech yesterday, asking him to specify what his spending priorities are and why seniors were moved to the top of the list of potential cuts.

The US Government brings in around $200 billion a month in revenue, meaning if the Treasury were to prioritize payments, there would be no reason for seniors, or veterans, or the majority of citizens dependent on the public dole to be left high and dry.

Is the President suggesting he's more interested in repaying the interest on our debt held by the Federal Reserve and countries like China than he is in paying for the commitments our government has incurred since the New Deal?

What are your thoughts?
