SHERIFF CANDIDATE SURVEY 2014

1. With the use of no-nock warrants on the rise along with deaths, mistakes, and accidents related to them. Do you agree that the use of no-knock warrants should be extremely limited and should NOT be used in cases involving non-violent offenders?

2. DUI and other types of police check point usage has increased in Wisconsin. Do you believe this is a violation of the fourth amendment which prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause?

3. Is it ever ok for a citizen to refuse to provide identification to a police officer and should deputies demand ID without probable cause?

4. Do you agree with the Wisconsin Senate Bill 196 that passed in 2014 and states that “no law enforcement agency may use a drone that is equipped with video or audio recording equipment to collect evidence or information in a criminal investigation without first obtaining a search warrant.”

5. Do you agree with Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke that citizens should arm themselves to protect themselves and their homes from home invasions and other criminal threats?

6. The National Defense Authorization Act supposedly gives the federal government the power to arrest and detain American citizens without trial. “Subsections 1021–1022 of Title X, Subtitle D, entitled "Counter-Terrorism", authorizing the indefinite military detention of persons the government suspects of involvement in terrorism, including U.S. citizens arrested on American soil “

Will you stand with the citizens to ensure that they are afforded their right to a trial by jury in a timely manner and not aid the federal government in rounding up citizens for indefinite detention?

7. With the purchase of drones, military vehicles, and other military hardware the police force has become increasingly militarized. Will you oppose the unnecessary expenses of these items?
