Open Skies and Dogs

The recent story about a dog being flown to multiple cities is but the latest example of why so many people dread flying— and it’s not just TSA. It’s the high prices, being overcharged for things—like checking in luggage, to a sandwich on the plane. Flying today is a horrible experience.

But this is to be expected from an industry that is heavily regulated and subsidized by the government. So, it is not surprising that international travel, the most competitive part of the airline travel industry, also offers the best consumer experience.

Congress and President Trump need to find ways to open up the domestic airline industry to more competition and resist the calls to make international air travel less competitive and less pro-consumer by weakening the Open Skies program.
