Will Dave Trott Sell Out?

Please read this important update from Michigan C4L President Tony DeMott:

I just got a remarkable email from Norman Singleton, Campaign for Liberty’s Senior Vice President:

Tony, I just heard that Congressman Dave Trott (MI-11) may be the next “conservative” to support H.R. 2775, the Remote Transactions Parity Act (more accurately named the National Internet Tax Mandate).

Apparently, he is meeting with some special interests this week and their influence may finally convince him to support this bill.

Since Trott is on the House Judiciary Committee, which has jurisdiction over this issue, his position on this bill could prove decisive in the outcome of this battle.

It appears Congressman Trott will make his decision on whether or not to cosponsor this bill as early as today.

So please call him at 202-225-8171 and tell him to oppose any version of the National Internet Tax Mandate, including the so-called “Remote Transactions Parity Act.”

If passed, the National Internet Tax Mandate will:

  • Raise prices on everything you buy online;
  • Provide big-spending governors with new bailout money through the federal government imposing more taxes on their citizens;
  • Violate the principle of “No Taxation Without Representation” by allowing state legislatures to raise taxes on individuals and businesses located out of state with little, if any, recourse against politicians who hike tax rates;
  • Free tax collectors in one state to pursue retailers across state lines;
  • Allow government bureaucrats from all fifty states to examine every Internet purchase you make in order to ensure you are complying with the National Internet Tax Mandate;
  • And make it easier for government goons at the IRS to get their hands on the Internet!

The National Internet Tax Mandate’s incentive to raise sales taxes nationwide will lead to an explosion of already out-of-control state budgets.

Even worse, the massive cost of complying with the National Internet Tax Mandate could drive many smaller Internet companies out of business... and discourage the creation of the next Amazon.com.

So again, please call Congressman Trott today at 202-225-8171 and tell him to oppose the National Internet Tax Mandate.

In Liberty,

Tony DeMott
President
Michigan Campaign for Liberty
