Unfortunately, Representative Massie’s raw milk amendment to the Farm Bill was defeated by a vote of 79-331. You can see the roll-call vote here.
But there is some good, albeit temporary, news. The Farm Bill also went down in defeat today, thanks to 30 Republicans who voted no. However, this is not a long-term victory for fiscal conservatism or individual liberty. In fact, it may be a long-term loss.
This is because the reason most of these members voted no was so they could force leadership to hold a vote on immigration “reform” legislation. H.R. 4750 was introduced by Representative Bob Goodlatte of Virginia. The legislation contains mandatory E-Verify. E-Verify establishes a nationwide database of all American citizens, which will store their personal information, establishing whether they have government permission to hold a job, among other things.
Campaign for Liberty will fight any attempts to pass mandatory E-Verify.
