Gilmer County Commissioners J.C. Sanford and Danny Hall are trying to push through a contract with the Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) to use the Gilmer County Airport as an operating base for unreliable, dangerous, and invasive drones. This is an outrageous violation of your right to be free from unwarranted searches. Tell them NO!

Petition to Prohibit Drones over Gilmer County
To the Gilmer County Commissioners:
WHEREAS: Gilmer County Commissioners J.C. Sanford and Danny Hall are pushing for a contract with the Georgia Tech Research Institute to fly unmanned drones equipped with cameras, radar, and ground emitter detectors from the Gilmer County Airport; and
WHEREAS: Drones have the potential for abuse by government agents to spy on citizens without a warrant or probable cause; and
WHEREAS: According to the U.S. Air Force, drones have "serious mishaps or crashes" 307% more often than manned military aircraft; and
WHEREAS: there is nothing preventing GTRI from flying these drones over other nearby counties and states,
THEREFORE: We demand that our Gilmer County Commissioners reject all plans to allow drones to take off from, operate from, and land at the Gilmer County Airport. |
