*** Double the driver's license fee;
*** Nearly double the handicap parking registration fee from $20 to $36;
*** Nearly double the car registration fee from $24 to $40;
*** Penalize hybrid and electric car drivers with a new biannual "road user fee" of $60 and $120 respectively.

To My State Representative, State Senator, and Governor McMaster
WHEREAS: Under the guise of "road repair," the powerful special-interest lobby is preparing to ram through a massive gas tax hike during the next session of the General Assembly, and
WHEREAS: Over the past four years, the SC Department of Transportation (DOT) budget skyrocketed by more than $700 MILLION dollars -- or nearly 55% adjusted for inflation -- totaling $1.5 BILLION last year, and
WHEREAS: The truth is, until the SC DOT is completely overhauled, our roads will never be fixed and the massive amount of taxpayer dollars poured into these bureaucracies will continue funding the pet projects of a few powerful politicians -- not fixing our crumbling roads and bridges.
THEREFORE: I insist that you OPPOSE any and all tax hikes and instead SUPPORT fixing the structural problems by (1) making the SC DOT fully accountable to the Governor; (2) abolishing the corrupt State Transportation Infrastructure Bank, and (3) creating transparency in all SC DOT spending and contracts.
